Call for Nomination: 2026 Buffett–EDGS Visiting Scholar Program at Northwestern University

The IFAR Consortium is pleased to announce the 2026 Buffett–EDGS Visiting Scholar (BEVS) Program hosted by the Equality Development and Global Studies (EDGS) Center at Northwestern University, United States. The program provides an opportunity for selected scholars from IFAR member institutions to engage in a vibrant multidisciplinary academic environment and collaborate with faculty and researchers at Northwestern University. 

The BEVS program aims to foster scholarly exchange, strengthen research collaborations, and support publication-oriented academic work. Previous cycles of the program have supported visiting scholars from institutions within the IFAR network, including Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII). 

 

Program Duration and Funding

Selected scholars may undertake a research visit for 4, 6, or 8 weeks, depending on the proposed academic plan and agreement with the faculty host at Northwestern University. 

The program provides funding support of up to USD 10,000, intended to cover expenses related to:

  • International travel

  • Accommodation in Evanston, Illinois

  • Pre-departure preparation

  • Academic and scholarly activities (such as research materials, datasets, or participation in professional conferences) 

During the visit, scholars are typically invited to present their ongoing research and engage with Northwestern’s academic community. 

 

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a faculty member formally affiliated with IFAR UIII (affiliation must be completed before April 1, 2026)

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to research and publication

  • Must not have previously participated in the Arryman Scholars Program 

 

Application Materials

Nominations must include the following documents:

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  2. Visit Proposal (maximum two pages) outlining:

    • the purpose of the proposed visit

    • planned academic activities (research, collaboration, seminars, etc.)

    • expected scholarly contributions and outcomes

  3. Endorsement Letter from IFAR UIII (maximum one page) explaining the rationale for nomination and institutional support 

 

Nomination Deadline

UIII will submit nominations to the IFAR Consortium by March 31, 2026. Faculty members who are interested in this opportunity are encouraged to prepare the required documents and coordinate with IFAR UIII for the nomination process.
